Have you heard about the inspiring initiative driven by the dedicated students at Benowa State School? Benowa Gardens Shopping Centre is excited to be a part of this meaningful project.
Throughout the year, the Benowa State School student council has been working tirelessly on a project with the goal of aiding youth living on the streets of the Gold Coast. What makes this initiative truly unique is the innovative approach taken by the students. Using upcycled chip packets, they have crafted blankets that serve a dual purpose—providing warmth and weather protection while also acting as a safeguard for precious belongings.
Recently, the student council presented four of these inventive blankets to Belinda from the Gold Coast Youth Service team, ensuring they reached the hands of young individuals experiencing homelessness in our community. This collaborative project involved Benowa High School students partnering with Benowa Primary School to collect empty chip packets for the blanket creation process. Remarkably, Benowa Primary School amassed six wheelie bins filled with chip packets, ready for the Benowa High students to collect.
As the initiative gained momentum, the students found themselves with more materials than they could store. In response, Benowa State High School reached out to us, Benowa Gardens Shopping Centre and we were delighted to support them on this mission by donating suitable storage solutions for the chip packets awaiting transformation.
Benowa Gardens Shopping Centre takes pride in being able to contribute to our local students’ efforts to make a positive impact on the lives of young people experiencing homelessness. Together, we can create a stronger and more compassionate community.
